Well, I’m sure you’ve come to realize that being able to communicate and understand Japanese is key to these scenarios. I am here to help you develop your Japanese skills for any of these (or other) scenarios where you need/want to use Japanese!

Who am I?

Hi! I'm Emma and I:

have a Master of Research in Japanese language education and a Bachelor of Education majoring in Japanese.
have 8 years of Japanese teaching experience including at schools such as James Ruse Agricultural High School.
am a Japanese native and am fluent in both Japanese and English.
have a lot of knowledge about the best Japanese learning methods, and I will share these strategies with you in our one-on-one classes.
have experience teaching all levels of Japanese from absolute beginner to business level Japanese.
know the struggles of switching from English to Japanese and vice versa.

If you still have questions about me, there will be some time at the end of our introduction lesson.

What will our lessons be like?

Every learner has different needs, learning pace, and interests so a lot of our lesson structure will depend on you. However, there are some key aspects:

A free introduction lesson where I get to know you and your learning requirements. Some questions I will ask are “why are you learning Japanese (e.g. for travel, work, family)”, “What are your hobbies/ things you do regularly in your daily life (you will probably want to learn how to talk about these things in Japanese)”, and if you have learnt a bit of Japanese before, “what are your strengths and weaknesses with Japanese and learning more generally”.
You will learn to fully read and write the hiragana and katakana scripts.
You will learn how to read some key kanji.
You will learn how to form sentences in Japanese.
And you will learn how to ask questions/give directions (and other fundamentals for travel).

Please have answers to the questions above ready before our introduction class.

FAQs

Our lessons are held remotely online. Unfortunately, I do not offer in-person lessons
Please note, I only accept adult learners (19 years or older, or 17-18 year olds who have finished high school).
Payments are requested to be made in a minimum of 2 week chunks. This is due to previous negative experiences.
I accept lesson postponments but I ask where possible that you give 24 hours notice. Cancellations are also accepted however, after every 2 cancellations (please note, this doesn't include postponements that are fulfilled), I will take one lessons payment.

What will you need for our lessons?

A computer with access to Skype (or alternate software), and a webcam.
Pens (one for marking and one for writing), and something to write on.
Access to a printer as some homework are on physical worksheets (for example, hiragana writing practice), and a Microsoft Word or Google account. If you don't have access to a printer, I suggest buying a writing practice workbook. I can introduce you to some good writing workbooks.
